CCCA: The Silent Epidemic of the Black Community

In our estimation, CCCA is the largest silent epidemic for Black women around the world currently.

This condition has been documented in medical journals but is often misdiagnosed; leading to a ton of permanent concerns.

If you suspect that you have CCCA, it's important to find out for sure. Many women are misdiagnosed and think they have seborrheic dermatitis, alopecia areata or traction alopecia when in fact they have CCCA. It's also possible to be diagnosed with female pattern baldness, but it can actually be CCCA.

This is particularly problematic because once a person realizes they have CCCA there may already be permanent scarring on the scalp.

When this happens it can be devastating; and it happens way too often.

CCCA can be confusing

The average woman will notice thinning, shedding, or breakage when it’s too late to get help. In Black women, the signs are even more subtle because we tend to have thicker hair than other races and CCCA takes a long time to develop.

CCCA can strike at any time, affecting women as young as 17 and as old as 80. The most common age for onset is between 30 and 50 years old.

Working with a specialist that understands CCCA is vital!

CCCA also does not have a documented cause or cure; meaning the Black women who have CCCA are in a tough position when it comes to finding help with the condition. This is because there are few specialists who can treat it, and doctors often are unsure of when to diagnose or how to treat it.

Because there are so few practitioners and experts available for Black women with CCCA, it can be difficult for those affected by this condition to find adequate treatment options.

We're here to fix that.
