CCCA Hair Loss | Foundation/Non-profit Organization

The CCCA HAIR LOSS FOUNDATION is dedicated to health equity in CCCA research, advocacy, and support.

An estimated 1.7 million underserved women and girls suffer with CCCA.

Background: CCCA is a form of hair loss that has no discovered cause or cure. It is a permanent condition that starts with scarring on the scalp and eventual permanent hair loss.

Although it can be present in men, it is most commonly experienced in african-ancestry women over 30 years of age. However it has been seen in some cases as early as teenage years.

One of the biggest problems with CCCA is that it is commonly misdiagnosed, and there is precious few research available on the condition.

This leads to millions of black women forced to fend for themselves, while being unable to grow hair and having levels of scarring on their scalp comparable to 1st degree burns.

We Can change this!

We want to start research on this condition and make sure that women with CCCA are supported!

Our research: Armed with our expertise in slowing the spread of CCCA scarring and regrowing hair using Functional and Naturopathic methods, we want to run expansive studies on the internal and scalp level methods that best maintain against CCCA.

A few of our success stories using PURIFY our formulated CCCA maintenance protocol:

The first step towards a cure is to understand what causes the condition.

There are still a lot of unknowns about CCCA, but we do hypothesize that it has something to do with an overactive immune system and inflammation.

We are currently raising funds to study the underlying causes of CCCA in african-ancestry women and, based on results, to create a protocol for preventing and lessening the inflammatory effects of CCCA on the scalp, follicle, and hair shaft.

This study’s significance lies in the ability to pinpoint:

  • the relationship between endocrine and lymphatic (immune) system health and CCCA

  • the effect of synthetic hair fibers and hair products marketed to women of African ancestry on endocrine system health

  • the direct impact that inflammatory foods have on exacerbating CCCA

If we are able to make these connections, we will be able to help women experiencing hair loss to both treat the problem and also prevent it in the future.

The ability to help restore women’s hair will lead to greater confidence, and if we treat the causes of CCCA, the women involved in the study will most likely see other positive health outcomes.

Community-Centered Research

We are a nonprofit institute focused on community centered research that supports the CCCA community in a culturally-competent manner, in a way that nurtures trust and inclusion in the research process.

We design community-based research that includes CCCA sufferers from beginning to end of the process.
